The Bros sounded just phenomenal in Key West last week. 7 nights in a row and not a weak set the entire week...and in temps well over 100 degrees on stage each night! I will see and hear them in Ireland along with Steve Earle and Blue Highway in two weeks at the Johnny Kennan Festival in Longford!

From Danny's MySpace Blog Key West and the Hogs Breath....Zen? The Carter Brothers Band and Key West Hi Friends. While we were on tour in Ireland last week we got the call about the corporate/management/shakeup at our 'home performance store' for the last 15 years the famed music landmark the Hogs Breath Saloon in Key West. Totally new management was installed with no apparent warning last week and took the whole island by surprise, most of all the loyal and hardworking office, bar and wait staff. There are a lot factors at work here in this situation and I cannot fairly take a position on anything until the new management has had a chance to prove themselves and their vision. They have an uphill battle all the way. One must first of all understand the history and Zen of the most unique place on earth sometimes as referred to as "Paradise". Let me please just say this without elaborating until knowing more of what's going on. Charlie Bauer, the now removed general manager, was/is the Hogs Breath. It was all his vision since the doors opened 20 years ago. Charlie had that 'build it and they will come' attitude from the inception. He steered his vision in the direction of live music...not just live music but quality live music. Music with a twist and acts that were totally unique and original unto themselves. He knows the tourists that come to Key West don't want Bob Seeger/Lynard Skynard cover songs all night long. One can go to "anytown USA" to your local Holiday Inn bar and hear that stuff anytime. No, they come there for the funkiness of the town where the attitude is "live free, do as you wish, be what you wanna be...just don't hurt anyone else". They want to be outlaws, pirates, smugglers and heathens and enjoy the total mythical quality of the Key West experience before returning to the cubicle at home in Ohio(sic)....and he catered to that with the Hogs Breath. He personally raised the quality level of all live music on the island as other bars soon followed suit. The serious music lover comes to the Hogs Breath. Thank you Charlie Bauer for your dedication and loyalty to 'your musicians', coworkers and for all the hard working civic duties you perform to this day for the entire island and city of Key West...yes, you are and always are the real maverick spirit of the Hogs Breath and Key West. I'm proud to be among your many friends. The Carter Brothers future status at the Breath is said to be 'solid' by new management. All future dates will be honored at least through 2009 as of this morning. We'll just have to see how new management conduct themselves, which hopefully will be in an honorable way. They have gotten off to a very bumpy start and haven't been exactly finessing their way into our big 'ol, albeit wacky Key West hearts so far but we will do what's right and give them a chance.
